Safer recruitment duties are written into the statutory frameworks that govern your sector:
-
Early years and nurseries
Early years and nurseries must meet the suitability and disqualification requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework.
-
Schools and Colleges
Schools and colleges must follow Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) and maintain a Single Central Record (SCR). KCSIE compliance requires verified identity, DBS checks at the correct level, barred list checks, a prohibition from teaching check, and a complete employment history for every person who works or volunteers with children.
- Children's homes and residential care must satisfy the Children's Homes (England) Regulations 2015, including the fitness of workers checks set out in the Quality Standards.
Children's homes
The vocabulary differs by setting, but the principle is the same. You must verify identity, confirm the right to work, carry out the correct level of DBS check, check the barred lists, take up references, and confirm qualifications and full employment history before someone starts.
Armaris helps you build and evidence a safer recruitment policy that satisfies inspectors — with the records, timestamps and audit trail to prove every check was completed.
